My Nature Story

I’m a nature enthusiast who loves learning and working to help educate and provide access to the outdoors for all.

I grew up in Central California, riding horses alongside farmland and going to the Tulare Ag Fair in the rain every year. Central California was where my mom’s side of the family is from, and I’ve heard stories about how my older relatives helped shape and build modern-day California. The outdoors has always been a part of my life. If I weren’t out in the country, I would be in the back of a car taking the scenic route through one of the several national parks within an afternoon’s driving distance from my house. However, it wasn’t until I became an adult that I recognized the value and importance of being in and having access to nature.

I started diving deeper into nature when I moved off to college. Cal Poly Pomona’s campus was surrounded by nature. The outdoors was where I would always go to relax in between classes. The selling point for me to attend the university is that my campus tour guide told the group that students would be 30 minutes from Downtown LA and less than an hour from the beach, the desert, and the mountains. Los Angeles County’s unique landscape allowed me access to nearly every landscape and habitat imaginable, and I took advantage of it by exploring.

I am now I am Wilderness First Aid Certified and regularly assist in leading camping and backpacking trips. I joined different hiking, adventure, and travel groups, educated myself on wilderness medicine, studied ecology and other sciences, dived deep into local environmental and cultural history, and learned how to provide outdoor education to people of all ages through Outward Bound Adventures Diverse Outdoor Leadership program and my experience as a hiking guide and adventure leader for local outdoor groups.
